Science Reflection #2 INCOMPLETE

Image
cow eyeball dissection - photo not of me ( credit link ) In our second semester of Science, we finished the chemistry unit, and covered biology (genetics, DNA, and heredity) and physics (simple machines). As we should, we did many labs on these topics; some examples will be linked in the following passage. Each lab required the use of the SAS Desired Student Learning Outcomes (DSLOs*), which will be explained below. This is a continuation of my Semester One Science Reflection . Throughout the year, collaboration has become increasingly important especially when conducting large lab activities that have parts that not everyone would want to do. For example, when we had had to do a cow eyeball dissection. Cutting open an eye isn't up everyone's allies, and many, many  people *The DSLOs include: cultural competence, creativity, content knowledge, communication, collaboration, character, critical thinking.

Science Reflection #1

In our first unit of science, we focused mainly on the introduction of basic sciences skills and concepts. We did multiple labs (two of which you will be linked two int the passage below) int the past two months to help us get back into the swing of things in terms of science classes. Here you will read about some of the more 'focused on' Desired Student Learning Outcomes (DSLOs*). Content knowledge is one of the three main DSLOs we will focus on this year in Science. Since this unit was focused around basic science skills, we did not go too deep into specific scientific concepts. One piece of content knowledge we did learn/review was the metric system (mili-, centi-, deca-, base unit, deci-, hecto-, kilo-). This year, all measurements will be done in the metric system, so it would beneficial to be able to convert from one unit to the other. A second important DSLO being used this year in this class will be 'critical thinking'. This almost links directly with conten...

Water Project

Image
WEEK ONE: This week, Aria and I created  The Water Project blog   and got our first awareness post done. We also began planning our product to sell to raise money, and we're calling our fund 'Beads for H2O'. Beads for H2O sales poster We will make jewelry (bracelets, hand chains, etc.) and sell them in our condo every other day starting next week. We also plan to sell at school for a day. Hand Chain Bracelet All the beads used will be in the 'water' color scheme, and will include light bronze, aquas, and turquoises.  Hopefully we'll be able to make at least S$160 to give to The Water Project fund by the end of our project! WEEK TWO: This week, I changed my plan a little bit. Instead of just bracelets and hand chains, I will also be making handmade cards since Mother's day is on May 8, and coming up fast. I also updated the pricings because I thought our prices were too high and no one would by a hand chain for EIGHT DOLLARS . New Bea...

My Family's Water Usage

Image
What is your family's average monthly water usage in cubic meters for the past six months? 19.62 cubic meter  The national average of monthly water use for households in Singapore is 33.4 cubic meters. (If you live in a condo the national average is around 15.3 cubic meters)  - Is your family above or below the average?  - How much above or below the average?  - What percentage above or below the average? My family is below the average by 4.32 cubic meters, about 4% above the average.   What was your family's lowest month of usage?  Can you think of any explanation why it might have been lower? Our lowest month was February (7.20 cubic meters). I thinks it's because we were on vacation and we left our home for a week (I think).   What was your family's highest month of usage?  Can you think of any explanation why it might have been higher? Our highest month was November, and I think so because I remember we had some family...

Electromagnetic Fishing Rod (With Nora)

Image
•||Please excuse my spelling in the video, thank you!||• On our (Nora and mine) fishing rod, our solenoid was our nail that acted as magnet. The two double A batteries were our voltage source and our wires were our path. The best part of our fishing rod was our switch because it could complete and create an incomplete circuit very fast. When our circuit was complete, our solenoid (nail) got a small magnetic field, making the nail magnetic. The relationship between electricity and magnetism is called electromagnetism.
