• What have you learned about the American Government? I have learned more about the three branches of the government, Legislative, Executive and Judicial, which I did not know much about before this unit. I also know a lot more about the system within these branches, like how the chief justice and associate justices serve for life, so that they are unbiased by their political alignment and don't have to be worried about being reelected. I learned a lot about the different views of the political parties. • What questions do you still have about the U.S. gov't? I still want to know more on the origins of the political parties, such as how the Democratic and Republican parties became the two main parties and why their symbols are a donkey and an elephant. Were there parties at one point that never made it to the modern day? How much has the Constitution changed over time, and what were the changes it went through?
Resources for Achieving My Goal

Original goal found here. I've actually decided to modify my goal just the slightest so that it can fit my schedule better. I had originally planned to just go to the gym and walking 3 times a week for 45 minutes. I did this, but only maybe once every two weeks until there came up other health reasons that prevented me to go. I've decided to just do the 30 minutes a day for each weekday, because it fits my routine, for the same amount of time to UNFINISHED https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/fitness/in-depth/walking/art-20046261 http://time.com/4748377/commute-biking-walking-longevity/ http://myhss.org/well-being/downloads/Walking101Guide.pdf
Top 10: Shakespeare's Twelfth Night

My Top 10 Movies that had a Profound Influence on Me " If music be the food of love, play on !" - Duke Orsino ( Shakespeare's Twelfth Night ) Number 4: During Fall Break of 2017, I found a movie that instantly reorganised my life. As far as breaks go, they get very boring after the first two days. As I said, after the second day of break, I started dawning upon a startling truth. Being at school, in a constantly moving environment, crowded with thoughts of new information, this confusion gave me ideas of what and how to draw. At home, with nothing happening, I felt dry and drained. I was spiralling myself in a fog of cluelessness. I was lazing at the edge between insanity and apathy, scrolling through various YouTube feeds simultaneously. And just perchance, I stumbled across a video with quite an odd thumbnail: A young lady donning a fake moustache being clung to by Helena Bonham Carter, titled "Twelfth Night". Clicking that video was quite possibly th...

Hey Insecurity, You suck. A lot. Don't play the victim here, you know you're the root cause of literally everything. Ok yeah, I will admit that you have made me realise many of my own faults, such as how overly cautious and guarded I kept/keep myself. BUT HEY you ruin everyone's life at one point. That's a pretty dumb move. For example, Napoleon Bonaparte was apparently so insecure about his height since he was mocked in the British papers, he started wars to prove himself. And he's taller than me by almost 6 inches. Lucky for me, I'm not that insecure about my height. Pshh, not that much at least... I'm 5ft 3/4in, okay, that's tiny in my standards. Insecurity, I'm not sure what your purpose or goal in life is. Maybe it's to just absolutely ruin everyone's life, maybe it to shrink your prey's confidence. Which or whatever the reason is, I think we all have enough power to get over you. Probably not forever, but enough for us to...

Sherlock Reference Anika Rudra Nearing 10:30pm on a school night when half the world is asleep, I continue sitting at my corner desk. Slouched, I’m scrolling randomly on my laptop. I have nothing to do but soak in more useless information. I am bored, quite bored. I pick up a pen, twirling it in a slurred motion. More scrolling, a small sound lights up my phone. I barely glance over, ignoring it. A second ping of my phone, I groan and look. Eyes widen, I take a second glance. Knocking my table, I reach to grab my phone. A sketchbook falls off the desk-shelf, probably breaking its unused spine. It was a text from a friend, a picture of one my old doodles captioned with one word: Remember? I blink and look again. The small sketch of mine of Batman and Robin, boldly shining in the weak light of my room. Remember what? I reply, with slight mix confusion and apathy. The reply came: “ Anika! This was the first doodle in your math notebook last year! It was so good that Mr. Dani...
Science Reflection #1

In our first unit of science, we focused mainly on the introduction of basic sciences skills and concepts. We did multiple labs (two of which you will be linked two int the passage below) int the past two months to help us get back into the swing of things in terms of science classes. Here you will read about some of the more 'focused on' Desired Student Learning Outcomes (DSLOs*). Content knowledge is one of the three main DSLOs we will focus on this year in Science. Since this unit was focused around basic science skills, we did not go too deep into specific scientific concepts. One piece of content knowledge we did learn/review was the metric system (mili-, centi-, deca-, base unit, deci-, hecto-, kilo-). This year, all measurements will be done in the metric system, so it would beneficial to be able to convert from one unit to the other. A second important DSLO being used this year in this class will be 'critical thinking'. This almost links directly with conten...

I want to improve my cardiorespiratory endurance for the mile run by lowering my time by about 15 seconds in the next 4 months (October 2017 - January 2017) by going to the gym 3x a week because I feel that my asthma limits me during class and demotivates me to be physically healthy, so I figured if I do cardiorespiratory activities, it will help me control my own breathing and be able to stay healthy at a not-super-extreme rate.
Ellis Island Reflection

How do you think people felt upon their arrival to Ellis Island? Extremely relived, glad and happy (though that may be an understatement) at first. After entering the room before the Great Hall, they probably starting to get very nervous, because after they go on, the had no control over their fate. What do you think the immigration hall screening was like? Frightening, I would think. It'd be very crowded, with tons of noise in multiple different languages that you don't understand, being rushed around with no clue on what is going to happen now. You would be asked questions you might have not expected and be examined for sicknesses you might have not noticed you had. You could get separated from whoever you are traveling with, and this would alarm anyone, because you may not ever see that person again. How did you feel when you arrived at the classroom and learned about your fate? Slightly relived, since I was lucky became a US Citizen with the first stamp. I got to...

Hello Señor de las Casas, As you may have noticed, I have been removed by the government and this may be my only letter to you. Still, I want to ask a question, about the encomienda, though I may not receive the reply. The encomienda was created so the Spanish could control a section of (our/the) land of 'America', and all the Natives in this area would be protected by these people. I'm not sure if you know, but the Spanish in these lands are NOT living up to these standards! They have begun to take the Natives, my people, as slaves! This is unbelievable, and I know that once you see around you what is happening, you will be in awe. Slaves being tortured, burned, with no remorse, not even for the women or children! You need to act now, Señor! People will listen to you! You know that all humans, from here to Spain to anywhere in Africa, were created equal. I don't know why you think that the Native Americans are just 'sub-humans', and even if this was true isn...

It's the Future. The looming cold shadow, The smell of fear and loathe swallowing all life. Gentle hands Clawing at anything, Growing rougher, tougher, Sinking, falling, into nothing. Innocence choked. That flower Trampled on, Sideways, pressed into the ground. Thorns pricking, shouts echoing, That flower droops. Lower. Darker. That flower, This Earth, Lays crushed. Screams eased. Breathe. Gentle hands, Rising, rising up, Holding life, love, Saving life, love. Shielding life, love, Running through the storm, A desperate race to the eye. Voices cry, argue. Gentle hands scar. That flower, Life, love, Blooms. Thorns fall, Clattering on the ground, to be forgotten. Shading your eyes, All hand in hand, Life saved love, Love saved life. It's the Future. A glittering wave of sunlight, A smile ready to save the world.

Today, I learned that even though I do wonder a lot, I wonder very vaguely. I still have questions on how exactly the last metal marble is pushed/projected out. I learned that my group is pretty tough to work with because since no one else would take charge to do tasks at the end, I had to either push them to do it or do it myself. I feel that the value of asking questions is that the questions help you search specifically what you were looking for in the demonstration/experiment.
Healthy Snack Reflection

Was my snack healthy? Justify why you say yes or no. Think about what we’ve talked about sugar and fats. Overall, my snack was healthy, but I used maple syrup which was only partly natural. I used blueberries as a natural sweetener instead of adding sugar and coconut milk has its own sweetness. When you choose a snack do you think about how healthy/unhealthy it is? Why or why not. I usually do. After school, my snake is a couple types of fruits with a glass of milk, with the occasional cookie/muffin. We have all sorts of snacks at home, some of which seem very healthy but actually are not, so I have to think about it. Do you think food is meant to be eaten with other people? What are some effects of eating and socializing at the same time? It depends on who you are with and what you're talking about. If you are sitting with som eone who you don't want to eat with, you won't even be able to swallow your food properly. If you're sitting with your best friends...

^^ This is my ecological footprint ^^ ^^ This is my mom and dad's ecological footprint ^^ We noticed that the amount we have traveled by air (by plane), which was 100+ hours, took a heavy toll on my parents' footprints. We are not exactly sure how to lessen the number of hours traveled by air because most of the hours are from my father's business trips.
Science~ What moves the ocean floor and the continents?

As of now, we know that Pangea broke apart because the plates (the ocean floor) was moving. Our assignment is to theorize how the ocean floor is moving using our prior knowledge. We know that there are trenches which outline the plates/ocean floor. New rocks are formed from these trenches. Age of Rocks Map url Ocean Trench Maps url But the new rocks can't be magically appearing out of no where. There must be something that creates the rocks, in turn moving the plates and continents. My idea is that beneath the Earth's crust (first layer), the layer of magma's movement creates volcanoes. Once the volcanoes erupt, the lava cools to form the new rock. The new rock pushes away the older rocks, moving the plates/ocean floor. This movement causes the continents to move.
