Science Reflection #1

Image
In our first unit of science, we focused mainly on the introduction of basic sciences skills and concepts. We did multiple labs (two of which you will be linked two int the passage below) int the past two months to help us get back into the swing of things in terms of science classes. Here you will read about some of the more 'focused on' Desired Student Learning Outcomes (DSLOs*). Content knowledge is one of the three main DSLOs we will focus on this year in Science. Since this unit was focused around basic science skills, we did not go too deep into specific scientific concepts. One piece of content knowledge we did learn/review was the metric system (mili-, centi-, deca-, base unit, deci-, hecto-, kilo-). This year, all measurements will be done in the metric system, so it would beneficial to be able to convert from one unit to the other. A second important DSLO being used this year in this class will be 'critical thinking'. This almost links directly with conten...

Physical Wellness SMART Goal

I want to improve my cardiorespiratory endurance for the mile run by lowering my time by about 15 seconds in the next 4 months (October 2017 - January 2017) by going to the gym 3x a week because I feel that my asthma limits me during class and demotivates me to be physically healthy, so I figured if I do cardiorespiratory activities, it will help me control my own breathing and be able to stay healthy at a not-super-extreme rate.

Ellis Island Reflection

How do you think people felt upon their arrival to Ellis Island? Extremely relived, glad and happy (though that may be an understatement) at first. After entering the room before the Great Hall, they probably starting to get very nervous, because after they go on, the had no control over their fate. What do you think the immigration hall screening was like? Frightening, I would think. It'd be very crowded, with tons of noise in multiple different languages that you don't understand, being rushed around with no clue on what is going to happen now. You would be asked questions you might have not expected and be examined for sicknesses you might have not noticed you had. You could get separated from whoever you are traveling with, and this would alarm anyone, because you may not ever see that person again. How did you feel when you arrived at the classroom and learned about your fate? Slightly relived, since I was lucky became a US Citizen with the first stamp. I got to...
