Top 10: Shakespeare's Twelfth Night

My Top 10 Movies that had a Profound Influence on Me " If music be the food of love, play on !" - Duke Orsino ( Shakespeare's Twelfth Night ) Number 4: During Fall Break of 2017, I found a movie that instantly reorganised my life. As far as breaks go, they get very boring after the first two days. As I said, after the second day of break, I started dawning upon a startling truth. Being at school, in a constantly moving environment, crowded with thoughts of new information, this confusion gave me ideas of what and how to draw. At home, with nothing happening, I felt dry and drained. I was spiralling myself in a fog of cluelessness. I was lazing at the edge between insanity and apathy, scrolling through various YouTube feeds simultaneously. And just perchance, I stumbled across a video with quite an odd thumbnail: A young lady donning a fake moustache being clung to by Helena Bonham Carter, titled "Twelfth Night". Clicking that video was quite possibly th...

To Insecurity • Open Letter

Hey Insecurity, You suck. A lot. Don't play the victim here, you know you're the root cause of literally everything. Ok yeah, I will admit that you have made me realise many of my own faults, such as how overly cautious and guarded I kept/keep myself. BUT HEY you ruin everyone's life at one point. That's a pretty dumb move. For example, Napoleon Bonaparte was apparently so insecure about his height since he was mocked in the British papers, he started wars to prove himself. And he's taller than me by almost 6 inches. Lucky for me, I'm not that insecure about my height. Pshh, not that much at least... I'm 5ft 3/4in, okay, that's tiny in my standards. Insecurity, I'm not sure what your purpose or goal in life is. Maybe it's to just absolutely ruin everyone's life, maybe it to shrink your prey's confidence. Which or whatever the reason is, I think we all have enough power to get over you. Probably not forever, but enough for us to...

Application Essay (Sherlock Reference)

Sherlock Reference Anika Rudra Nearing 10:30pm on a school night when half the world is asleep, I continue sitting at my corner desk. Slouched, I’m scrolling randomly on my laptop. I have nothing to do but soak in more useless information. I am bored, quite bored. I pick up a pen, twirling it in a slurred motion. More scrolling, a small sound lights up my phone. I barely glance over, ignoring it. A second ping of my phone, I groan and look. Eyes widen, I take a second glance. Knocking my table, I reach to grab my phone. A sketchbook falls off the desk-shelf, probably breaking its unused spine. It was a text from a friend, a picture of one my old doodles captioned with one word: Remember? I blink and look again. The small sketch of mine of Batman and Robin, boldly shining in the weak light of my room. Remember what? I reply, with slight mix confusion and apathy. The reply came: “ Anika! This was the first doodle in your math notebook last year! It was so good that Mr. Dani...
